Drug in pharmacology is called a medication or medicine, is a chemical substance used to treat, cure, prevent a disease with the intention to cure that disease. Dietary supplements mean to provide nutrients (Vitamins, Antioxidants and Minerals) that may otherwise not be consumed in sufficient quantities.

As we move forward into the future, everyone is more health conscious. Government is promoting healthy lifestyle and medicine prevention. However, in Doctor point of view, there is no Medicine prevention as without a disease, a doctor cannot prescribe a medication.

DRUGS

The reason that Drugs need to be regulated is because it is a poison. The poison is to kill the virus or bacterial cells that are affected. Drugs are usually to treat the diseases that the patient being diagnosed. Keep in mind that, all drugs have side effect. Treating a disease, the side effect will create another problem. It is a vicious cycle when this happen. While Drugs are being regulated by FDA, supplements do not. However, one must be vigilant where the supplement is manufacture and the source from. A good manufacturer will ensure every batch is tested and the quality of the product. Buying from a reliable manufacturer is very important.

DIETARY SUPPLEMENT

While a healthy balanced diet often provides a source of vitamins and minerals, taking dietary supplements on top of your healthy diet may prove beneficial in ensuring your body may be the nutrients it needs each day.

Dietary supplements, which are not regulated by the Food and Drug Administration, are marketed as a solution or preventative measure for a number of disorders, or to supplement nutrients lacking in your diet. To safely reap the benefits of taking dietary supplements, always consult with a physician before taking any supplement to help avoid negative side effects.

The Benefits

Normally, you should be able to get all the nutrients you need from a balanced diet. However, taking supplements can provide additional nutrients when your diet is lacking or when certain health conditions cause you to develop an insufficiency or deficiency.

In most cases, multiple-vitamin supplements provide all the basic micronutrients (vitamins and minerals) your body needs. These multiple vitamins are generally safe because they contain only small amounts of each nutrient.

1. PROMOTES TISSUE MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR

Consuming dietary supplements that contain antioxidants may aid in tissue maintenance and repair, processes that occur throughout your life. In fact, different antioxidants work in different parts of the body to protect various organ systems. Your day to day activities put a strain on your tissues, and specialized cells within your body continually produce proteins that make up healthy new tissue to replace old, damaged tissue. Defects in tissue repair and maintenance lead to diseases. While aging is inevitable, you may be able to slow the process by ensuring that the nutrients your body needs are available to reduce damage and support tissue repair. As the name implies, antioxidants are “anti” oxidation. In other words, antioxidants slow down the “internal rusting” of our bodies as we age.

2. PREVENTS DISEASE The consumption of antioxidants supplements may also help prevent cancer. Antioxidants work in the body to reduce, neutralize and eliminate chemicals called free radicals that cause oxidative damage within your cells. The National Cancer Institute explains that oxidative damage to your cells promotes cancer development. While studies on the effect of antioxidant supplements in preventing cancer in humans have proved inconsistent so far, consuming moderate amounts of antioxidant supplements may prove beneficial to your health. Ideally, you want to obtain these nutrients from the foods you eat. However, if the standard diet is lacking in fruits and vegetables – a key source for vitamins, minerals and antioxidants supplements can help fill these gaps in the diet. Source : Internet
